How this list works: Numbered picks are chosen by our editors and are never for sale. We may earn a commission from some links. Full disclosure.
An AI voice generator turns text into natural-sounding speech, so you can narrate a video, course or podcast without recording yourself. The six tools below cover different needs, from the most realistic voices to free commercial use. We ranked them on realism, languages, cloning, free plans, commercial rights and what users say, including complaints.

#1: ElevenLabs
The most realistic voices, strong cloning and 70+ languages including Hindi. Credits burn fast and reviewers report lost credits when you downgrade.
#2: Murf
An easy voiceover studio with a timeline, Canva integration and commercial rights from the Creator plan. Usage is capped and some voices sound flat outside English.
#3: WellSaid
Consistent voices from licensed voice actors with clear commercial rights. English only on self-serve plans, and download minutes are capped.
#4: Fish Audio
Cheap cloning and a huge community voice library, with commercial rights on Plus. Quality varies, support is thin and only licensed voices should be used.
#5: TTSMaker
Free commercial use, 600+ voices and 100+ languages. Voices are clear but less natural, and files are deleted after 30 minutes.
#6: Speechify
A reader app plus Speechify Studio for voiceovers with commercial rights. The products are billed separately and cancellation complaints are common.
How we chose these tools
We looked at how natural the voices sound, how many languages they cover, whether cloning is available, what you get for free, what the commercial license says and how credits or minutes are counted. Our rankings are based on official pricing information, user reviews and independent write-ups. We have not run our own trials, and each review says so.
Quick picks
Best all-rounder: ElevenLabs.
Best for video and slides: Murf.
Best for English business narration: WellSaid.
Best low-cost cloning: Fish Audio.
Best free: TTSMaker.
Best for listening and Studio voiceovers: Speechify.
Free plans and commercial rights
Free plans are for testing, and most don’t include commercial rights. ElevenLabs’ free plan has no commercial license and needs attribution. Murf’s free plan has no downloads or commercial rights. WellSaid’s free plan has none either. Fish Audio’s free plan is personal use only. Speechify Studio’s free plan has no commercial rights. TTSMaker is the exception, with commercial use allowed on its free plan. If you publish or sell audio, expect to pay for a plan that includes commercial rights.
Watch the credits
ElevenLabs credits reset monthly, with paid plans rolling unused credits over for up to two months while you stay subscribed, but downgrading or cancelling forfeits them. Fish Audio’s credits reset monthly and don’t roll over. Murf and WellSaid cap voice generation or downloads. Retakes, previews and pronunciation fixes can all use credits, so test a short script first and check your balance before you subscribe to a bigger plan.
Cloning and consent
Cloning a voice is powerful and risky. Only clone your own voice, or one you have clear written permission to use. Don’t use community voices of real people or characters without checking their license.
Languages and Indian languages
ElevenLabs lists 70+ languages including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil and Telugu, though quality varies by language. TTSMaker lists around 80 languages, including several Indian ones. WellSaid’s self-serve plans are English only. Test a short sample in your language with any tool before paying.
Which one should you choose?
