Our Fish Audio review
Our verdict
Fish Audio is the fastest-growing name in this category and one of the cheapest ways to clone a voice and get commercial rights. G2 reviewers praise how natural and expressive the voices are, and its community library is enormous. The drawbacks are inconsistent quality, uneven support and a consent problem with some community-uploaded voices, which you need to take seriously.
Our 4.1 out of 5 score is an editorial judgment based on features, pricing and user feedback. It loses points for inconsistent quality, mixed review scores and the consent risk.
What it does
You pick a voice from the community library, design one from a text description, or clone one from a short recording, then generate speech with optional emotion tags such as whispering or laughing. Cloning needs only about 10 to 15 seconds of clean audio. There is also a pay-as-you-go API for developers.
What users say
G2 shows about 4.5 out of 5 across roughly 120 reviews, with users praising natural voices, cloning and ease of use. Trustpilot is far harsher, averaging about 2.2 out of 5 from 31 reviews, with complaints about unstable clone quality, billing, slow support and doubts about deleting published clones. Some G2 reviewers also dislike that support runs through Discord, and several mention voices that vary in quality.
Consent and legal risk
This matters more here than for most tools. Fish Audio’s license bans cloning a real person’s voice without consent, and its docs ask for written permission. But anyone can upload a clip to the community library, and reviewers have noted fan-made clones of TV and game characters added without the actors’ consent. Don’t use a voice unless you’re sure it’s yours or licensed, because publishing an unauthorised clone can create real problems.
Pricing
The Free plan gives 8,000 credits a month, about 7 minutes, with 500 characters per generation, and is for personal use only. Fish Audio’s pricing page shows “commercial use” on the free card but its terms restrict free use to personal projects, so don’t rely on the free plan for monetised work. Plus is $15 a month, or $11 billed annually, for about 200 minutes with commercial rights. Pro is $100 a month, or $75 billed annually. Credits reset monthly and don’t roll over, and promotional prices change often.
Languages
Fish Audio advertises 80+ languages on its newest models, though another review lists 30+ and says quality varies by language. We couldn’t verify Hindi or other Indian-language quality, so audition voices before paying.
Where it falls short
Quality varies by voice, support is limited, and the free plan can’t be used commercially.
Who should use it
Choose Fish Audio if you want low-cost cloning or a huge voice library and you’ll only use voices you have rights to. Skip it if you want the most consistent results (ElevenLabs) or no consent worries (WellSaid). See our comparison of Fish Audio vs ElevenLabs.
