Our Synthesia review
Our verdict
Synthesia is a polished choice for presenter-style video aimed at training, explainers and business communication. You write a script, pick an AI presenter and get a clean, professional video in many languages without filming. It is aimed at businesses more than casual creators, and its minute-based plans reward steady, planned use.
Our 4.4 out of 5 score is an editorial judgment based on features, pricing and user feedback. It loses points for tight minute allowances and a corporate focus.
What it does
You choose an avatar, add your script, and Synthesia generates the video with matching voice and lip sync. Paid plans add more stock avatars, personal avatars of yourself, logo removal and downloads, and the top plans add API access. Enterprise plans include training-friendly features such as SCORM export.
What users say
G2’s listing shows about 4.6 out of 5 across more than 2,800 reviews, and independent reviewers commonly call it a leader in avatar quality and ease of use for training content.
The criticisms are about limits. One review points out that Starter on monthly billing includes the same 10 minutes as the free plan, so the extra cost buys avatars and features, not volume. Every script revision uses minutes again. Some users report pronunciation problems with technical terms or less common languages, which can be fixed with phonetic spelling but takes time.
Pricing
The Free plan gives 10 minutes a month with 9 stock avatars, but videos keep Synthesia’s logo and can only be shared by link, not downloaded. Starter is listed at $29 a month, or $18 a month billed annually, and Creator at $89 a month, or $64 billed annually, with 30 minutes a month. Listings in 2026 disagree on the exact figures, with some reporting a mid-2026 price cut and a move to credits, so check Synthesia’s pricing page before you pay. Enterprise pricing is custom.
Where it falls short
Minute caps limit how much you can produce, and revisions use minutes. It is less suited to stock-footage explainers or cinematic clips. Synthesia is also less flexible for casual creators than tools with lower entry prices.
Who should use it
Choose Synthesia for training, onboarding and business explainers where a professional presenter matters. Skip it if you want long YouTube videos with stock footage (InVideo AI or Pictory) or the most flexible avatar tool for creators (HeyGen).
