You don’t need a special tool to generate YouTube titles and descriptions. A general AI assistant such as ChatGPT can do it well if you give it the right details. This guide has copy-and-paste prompts for titles, descriptions, tags, channel names and scripts, plus the character limits to keep in mind. Check every result before you publish, because AI can invent details and exaggerate.
YouTube limits to remember
Video titles can be up to 100 characters, but search results show only about 70, so put the main keyword first. Shorts titles share the 100-character limit, but the feed shows about 40. Descriptions can be up to 5,000 characters. Channel descriptions can be up to 1,000. Tags have a combined limit of 500 characters and carry little ranking weight, so a few focused tags are enough.
How to get better results
Give the AI the topic, audience, main keyword, the promise of the video and any tone you want. Ask for several options, then pick and edit the best. Never ask it to invent claims you can’t back up.
Title prompts
Write 10 YouTube titles for a video about [topic] for [audience]. The main keyword is [keyword]. Keep each under 60 characters, put the keyword near the start and make a clear promise without exaggerating.
Rewrite this title in five different ways, each under 60 characters: [title].
Write 8 YouTube Shorts titles for this script, each under 40 characters with the main keyword first: [script].
Avoid misleading titles. A title should match what the video delivers. Clickbait that doesn’t pay off hurts viewer trust and retention.
Description prompts
A good description starts with a short summary that includes your keyword, then adds context, links and timestamps.
Write a YouTube description for a video titled “[title]”. Start with two sentences that summarise the video and include the keyword “[keyword]”. Then add a short paragraph with context, a list of timestamps based on this outline: [outline], and a closing line inviting viewers to subscribe. Keep it under 1,500 characters.
Write a 150-character description snippet for this video that makes people want to click “show more”: [summary].
Only the first lines show before viewers expand the description, so put the most useful information there.
Tag prompts
Suggest 8 focused YouTube tags for a video about [topic], each one to three words, with the total under 400 characters.
Don’t spend long on tags. A few relevant ones are enough.
Channel name and description prompts
Suggest 15 YouTube channel name ideas for a channel about [niche] for [audience]. Keep them short, easy to spell and not too similar to existing big channels.
Write a YouTube channel description under 800 characters for a channel about [niche]. Say who it’s for, what viewers will get and how often I publish.
Check that a name isn’t already in use before you choose it.
Script and idea prompts
Give me 10 video ideas about [niche] for [audience], with a one-line hook for each.
Write an outline for a [length]-minute YouTube video on [topic], with a hook, three main points and a closing call to action.

Check before you publish
Make sure the title matches the video, the description is accurate, any claims are true, and links and timestamps work. If your video includes realistic synthetic content, use the altered or synthetic content setting in YouTube Studio when you upload. YouTube Studio may also offer built-in AI suggestions for titles and ideas on some accounts, and availability varies.
