Choose MagicSchool AI if you want one platform with ready-made templates for most planning and paperwork. Choose Brisk Teaching if you mostly give feedback and work inside Google Docs, Slides and Classroom.

MagicSchool AI and Brisk Teaching are two of the most popular AI tools for teachers, and both have a free plan. They solve the problem differently: MagicSchool is a standalone platform with more than 80 ready-made tools, while Brisk is a browser extension that brings AI into the documents you already have open.

Our verdict

There’s no single winner, because they suit different ways of working. MagicSchool AI is the better all-in-one platform for planning and paperwork, and it’s the safer starting point if you want one tool for most tasks. Brisk Teaching is the better choice if feedback on student writing is where you lose the most time, or if you rarely leave Google Workspace.

Both score 4.5 out of 5 in our reviews. Many teachers will get the most from using both: MagicSchool for planning documents and Brisk for feedback inside Google Docs.

Key differences

How you use it. MagicSchool runs as a website where you pick a tool and fill in a short form. Brisk works as a Chrome or Edge extension, as a sidebar over Google Docs, Slides, Classroom and any webpage.

What it’s best at. MagicSchool covers the widest range of documents, from lesson plans to IEP drafts and parent emails. Brisk’s standout is rubric-based feedback on student writing, which is the feature teachers praise most.

Where it works. MagicSchool works in any browser. Brisk works only on desktop Chrome or Edge, so it won’t help on a tablet or phone.

Pricing compared

Both have a free plan without an expiry date, and neither clearly publishes its free usage limits. MagicSchool Plus costs $12.99 a month or $8.33 a month billed annually. Brisk Educator Pro is listed at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Both offer custom pricing for schools and districts. Check each tool’s pricing page before paying, since prices change.

Can you use both?

Yes. Because both have free plans, you can use MagicSchool for lesson plans, rubrics and parent emails, and Brisk for feedback inside students’ Google Docs, without paying for either.
